Approximately 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers state they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other marked automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state initial examinations indicate the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; authorities are currently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials said they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A senior political figure stated the attack made him stunned and had to be solved quickly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on social media, referring to the murder of nine people by a assailant focusing on residents of migrant background in 2020.
